Employment Law

Nobody wins an employment dispute, except perhaps the lawyers litigating the case.  In this area of the law, businesses are often seen as the “deep pockets” providing a winning lottery ticket to an employee who, for one reason or another, believes the company has done them harm. Whether the harm is real or only perceived, litigating an employment dispute in today’s legal landscape is a risky proposition even under the most favorable facts.

Mr. Colodney counsels business clients to minimize the risk of litigation by developing clear and sensible human resource policies and procedures — and following them!  From initiating the employment relationship with a protective offer letter to implementing written performance reviews, detailed documentation regarding the employee’s history is important to insulate the business from unnecessary risk.

The firm drafts and revises employee handbooks, drafts offer letters and employment contracts, creates policies and procedures, and generally advises employers regarding all aspects of the employment relationship. Mr. Colodney also advises clients in sensitive situations in which the employment relationship must be terminated, including downsizing

Mr. Colodney maintains membership in the Association of Corporate Counsel’s Labor & Employment Law section to stay ahead of the curve on Employment Law developments.
